FAQs

What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup is micropigmentation, a type of tattoo. It is the process of implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin. Techniques include implanting pigments with a manual tool or permanent makeup (PMU) device which produce designs that resemble makeup, such as eyebrows and other permanent enhancing colors to the skin of the face, lips and eyelids.

Does permanent makeup tattooing hurt?

Topical and secondary anesthetics are used for numbing before and during the service. Although, every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable throughout the entire appointment, pain threshold vary from person to person. Most clients say they don’t feel any pain. Consider, though, that those going through their menstrual cycle will be more sensitive.

What is the maintenance?

Touch-ups are needed for permanent makeup tattoos. Each new service requires two or more visits (initial and touch-up session). It is very common and normal for the permanent makeup tattoo to fade substantially after the initial session which is why it requires layering and is a two to three step process. Previously tattooed eyebrows may require additional sessions and rarely achieve the same results compared to those who have no previous tattoo work because of the existing scar tissue and color under the skin, even if it isn't visible.

How long will permanent makeup tattooing last?

Permanent makeup pigment is designed to fade over time. A touch-up is required 8-12 weeks since the initial service and any where from 12-24 months thereafter. Frequency of touch-ups depends on a number of factors including sun exposure, chemical peels (glycolic, lactic, etc.), how active the client is, and how fast each individual's cell turnover is. Final results and time frame cannot be guaranteed as each skin type hold and break down pigments differently.

What should I do before my appointment?

You can come to your appointment with the way you would normally apply makeup to the procedure area. This would give me an idea of the results you desire. If you plan to go on a vacation, I recommend planning to leave for your trip a minimum of 7 days after the procedure. Avoid any blood thinners 24 hours before the service. Refer to ‘Prepare for your appointment’ under the ‘Intake Form + Care’ tab.

How will I look directly after my appointment?

You won’t leave red and swollen. The procedure area might be sore but permanent makeup tattoos are less invasive than body tattoos. The permanent makeup tattoo will appear darker and thicker than expected for the first few days. Some may even say that it looks too perfect or pasted on. Expect the peeling phase to start a few days after the service. Once the peeling phase is done, the color will be faint. During the healing process (about 30 days), the color will gradually reappear and shrink slightly in size.

What should I do after my appointment?

Follow the ‘Aftercare Instructions’ and tips on what to avoid which can be viewed under the ‘Intake Form + Care’ tab. A copy of the aftercare instructions will be provided during your appointment along with healing balm to properly care for the service area. Not following aftercare instructions will affect the outcome.

What can prevent me from getting an appointment?

Epilepsy, diabetes, an autoimmune disease, a communicable disease, chemotherapy, pregnant and nursing are all contraindications. More contraindications are listed on the intake form which can be reviewed at the ‘Intake Form + Care’ tab. If you have previous work from another artist, please reach out to me before booking so we can go over your options.
